Nera SatCom first to obtain DVB-RCS interoperability certification
As the first DVB-RCS equipment manufacturer in the world, Nera SatCom today received the SatLabs Certificate of Compliance, verifying that its broadband satellite terminals comply with the DVB-RCS standard and can interoperate with other DVB-RCS based satellite equipment.
Oslo/Noordwijk, 5 September 2005. "This is a major milestone in the commercial development of the DVB-RCS standard", says Xavier Lobao, Chairman of the SatLabs Group. "Interoperability between terminals and systems is one of the key advantages of the open standard DVB-RCS and the main driver for continuously lowering the cost of broadband via satellite equipment and solutions. It allows customers to choose freely between multiple vendors instead of being tied to a proprietary or single-vendor technology."
The SatLabs Group is an international, not-for-profit association of service providers, satellite operators, system integrators, terminal manufacturers, and technology providers, with the aim of ensuring interoperability between DVB-RCS terminals and systems. To that end, the SatLabs Qualification Program
was launched earlier this year to provide an independent certification process.
"For customers to fully trust and invest in open standard systems and reap the benefits of interoperability and vendor independence, it is vital to have an independent body that verifies manufacturers' compliance to the standard. Nera SatCom has been at the very forefront of the DVB-RCS development and deployment since the conception of the standard and we are proud to be the first to receive the official SatLabs certification", says Mr. Stig-Are Mogstad, President and CEO of Nera SatCom.
The interoperability tests and standard compliance tests of the Nera SatLink 1000 and the Nera SatLink 1910 terminals were carried out by Cetecom, the appointed third party Qualification Laboratory.
